FAQ’s

Can I store the press without it being flat?

Yes! The press is easily stored upright. It takes up much less space when positioned upright and can be simply placed a cupboard. Make sure the handle is down with the lock in position(usually a simple turn of a dial), hence locking the pressing plates together. The press should also have been emptied of any water before leaving for long periods of time. Plus of course make sure it is unplugged and left to cool before storage!

What is the Domena EMC (electronic mineral control) system?

CAPT System

CAPT System: Limestone Capture System

What will cause a steam generator to calcify? Depending on the region, water has a certain degree of limestone.

When there’s presence of limestone in the water during the heating process, minerals crystallise and create deposits. You already have observed this phenomenon in your kettle for example.

Over time, calcium deposits, accumulate and forms a layer on the bottom of your device which deactivates its proper functioning: this scaling leads to heating problems and furthermore can quickly lead to device failure.

Limestone is the number 1 enemy of your appliance.

CAPT: the unique system of active uptake limestone

Each MAC5 Steam Press has a limestone capture system. The water in the tank is filtered by a demineralization cassette before being heated and converted into steam. Thus, all minerals are captured by the tape and are not able to damage your steam generator. In addition, when the cassette is no more effective the user is warned that he must change it.

The EMC system ( Electronic Mineral Control ) is now the most effective anti-scale system which allows MAC5 to be the only system to offer a 6 year warranty against scaling for your steam press.

One anti-scale cartridge is included in each steam generator package, which corresponds to about 3 months of ironing (for an average rate of limestone and a weekly Ironing average duration of 2-3 hours).

What is the frequency of replacing Domena MAC5 anti-scale filters?

It all depends of course on the quality of the water you use, the amount of ironing you do all year long and the steam flow you choose.

If you use moderately hard water (15 ° TH for example), choose an average steam flow and you go back two hours a week with your steam product, your  Domena MAC5 anti-scale filter will last 8 to 9 months. If you happen to iron for 3 or 4 hours from time to time, or if you often iron in high steam, the life of your filter will be reduced (6 to 7 months).

Domena MAC5 TF Non EMC Filters

If one of the parameters changes (softer or harder water / smaller or larger amount of ironing / small steam flow or constant steam flow), the life of the anti-scale filter will be changed. It could even be reduced to two or even a month in extreme cases.

In areas where water is hard or very hard, you can mix the tap water with demineralized water: this will prolong the life of your cassette.

Never use condensation water from a tumble dryer, for example: it usually contains fibres (sometimes very small) that can damage your ironing appliance.

As for scented ironing, avoid them too: some contain elements that despite reassuring formulas, can cause problems in the operation of your devices. Since we are unable to test all brands on the market, we prefer to recommend caution.

What temperature setting should I use for different fabrics?

Because every fabric is different, your ironing technique may need to be adjusted to make sure you don’t damage your favourite linen trousers or cashmere sweater. Make sure to check the label inside your clothing or linens to see the recommended fabric care instructions, including ironing recommendations.
